Experts analyse the situation 30 years after Dayton The Dayton Peace Agreement is one of the defining milestones not only for Bosnia and Hercegovina, but for the entire Western Balkans. How did Dayton bring an end to a devastating war and what can it teach us about fostering sustainable peace today? Thirty years on, Dayton remains a powerful lens for understanding both the challenges and possibilities of post-conflict societies. While it brought an end to violence, Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to grapple with the pursuit of lasting stability. Looking beyond the Western Balkans, Dayton’s legacy raises broader questions: what lessons can inform responses to today’s conflicts and wars, such as the one in Ukraine? Which approaches from the past might help build durable peace?
