Doug Whittaker, Superintendent of Charlotte County Public Schools, shares how after seven years of using the 7 Habits as professional development and a foundation for district culture, they decided they wanted to share the same leadership skills with their students. After researching multiple options for teaching students leadership, the district decided to implement The Leader in Me because of its ubiquitous approach and the familiarity the adult staff had with the 7 Habits, which are part of The Leader in Me Process. Assistant Superintendent Chuck Bradley shares how The Leader in Me has helped students not only learn character, but live it. He shares that leadership is the foundation of success in life, and he has seen how students, homes, and the community has been changed after focusing on leadership. Whittaker shares how the accountability of the administrators to living the leadership principles of the 7 Habits has positively impacted teacher quality. “Great teachers become better under good leadership…. My responsibility is directly hold the principals accountable not only for instilling the 7 Habits but for living the 7 Habits. We have chosen as a district to embrace those 7 Habits and include them as part of principal and district evaluations.
