Mid of church STORYLINE: Dozens of people with flowers said goodbye to an award-winning Ukrainian writer killed in a deadly Russian missile attack, at an orthodox memorial service in Kyiv on Tuesday. Victoria Amelina, 37, was among those killed in a deadly Russian missile attack on a popular restaurant in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine. The restaurant was often visited by journalists and aid workers, and 12 other people also lost their lives in the attack. Victoria passed away in the hospital in Dnipro several days after the attack due to severe injuries. The orthodox memorial service was held at Saint-Michaels Cathedral on Tuesday afternoon in Kyiv. In the crowded main hall of the church, where ceremonies are usually held for soldiers who were killed on the battlefield, representatives from the Ukrainian literary community, relatives, and residents of Kyiv gathered to bid farewell to a renowned writer. She had turned her attention from literature to document Russian war crimes after the invasion. People approached gently touching the yellow and blue flag that completely covered the closed casket. Many couldn’t hold back their tears. Dmytro Kovalchuk, 31, was with Victoria Amelina at the restaurant when a Russian Iskander missile struck the building. He worked as a producer for a team of writers, Amelina and Colombian authors. They were having dinner at the pizzeria when the explosion occurred. "Victoria remained in her seat as she was," recalled Dmytro.
