During the late 1960s and into the 1970s, living and working in space was all the rage. The Apollo moon landings influenced TV and movies as well. One of these productions was the sci-fi television show "Space: 1999" created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. Taking place on a sprawling moonbase after the moon flies away from earth's orbit, it ran for two years from 1975 to 1977. While the sets were, in the visual sense, very unique, one of the more interesting aspects of Moonbase Alpha was the Travel Tube System. And what was this travel tube? It was something like a subway system for the moon - a way to get from one place to another at high speed, and especially to the launch pads. While there still remains some technical questions about the travel tube's inner workings, it was a realistic and practical way to be quickly transported around Moonbase Alpha.
