#bengaljukebox --------------------------- "Ja hariye jay" is a song composed by Rabindranath Tagore, which he ascribed to the Dukhho (Sorrow) sub-category, within the Prem (Love/ devotion) section. Set in Khamaj-kirtan, the song echoes the poet’s saddened state of mind after losing his wife, son and daughter. The poem was written in 1909. A rich and compelling rendition of "Ja hariye jay" was performed by Shukla Paul Setu at Ganer Jhornatolay on the fifth and final day of the Srijone O Shekore arts festival. The artist was accompanied on stage by Swarup Hossain on the Tabla, Asit Biswas in the Esraj and Binod Roy in the keyboard. To celebrate 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence, Bengal Foundation organised Srijone O Shekore, a 5-day arts festival, from 14 to 18 December 2021, at Bengal Shilpalay, Dhaka. Supported by BRAC Bank, the festival featured performing arts, visual art, crafts, books, film, readings, and events for children. Over 300 singers-musicians-dancers-craftspersons-artists performed on stage and engaged in various kinds of programming at the festival, over the five days. Shukla Pal Shetu was inspired to sing by her elder sister. She received her first lessons from Ratanlal Sutradhar and Bhartachandra Prasad in her hometown Sirajganj. Later, in Dhaka, she had the privilege of taking lessons in Rabindra Sangeet from the distinguished musicologist Waheedul Haque. She continues to train with Laisa Ahmed Lisa and Khairul Anam Shakil. Shukla earned top honours in Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishat and other national-level competitions. She completed a course in Nazrul Sangeet from Chhayanaut and is a teacher there. ┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉ Bengal Foundation has been promoting Bengali music for decades in order to nurture and uphold the musical traditions of Bengal.
