A remote settlement in the Sanaag mountains suddenly became connected to a gold trade worth hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Investigators followed export documents, shipment records, concession paperwork and government revenue projections. What they found was not a typical mining boom. Gold exports surged into the hundreds of millions. An export levy existed. Receipts were issued. Yet in official records, some transactions appeared as “not paid.” This documentary examines the Milxo mining economy — the export pathway through Bosaso, the international gold market, the appearance of foreign-linked concession agreements, and the overlap between private companies, public authority, intermediaries and armed actors around a single revenue stream. The film presents documented patterns and asks structural questions: If the trade is informal, why are export permissions consistent? If taxes exist, why does public revenue barely appear? If concessions were granted, under what process were they issued? And when hundreds of millions leave a fragile region — who ultimately benefits? Milxo is not only a gold rush. It is a governance test. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Directed & Narrated by Abdulqudus Donyale Arkhivum Documentaries ⸻ Chapters 00:00 The contradiction 01:22 The gold exports surge 03:45 The shipment pathway (Milxo → Bosaso → Dubai) 05:58 The levy and missing revenue 07:52 Export receipts vs database records 09:41 The concession documents 11:34 The people around the trade 13:28 Armed pressure and continued mining 15:02 What Milxo reveals about governance Somalia documentary, Puntland documentary, Milxo gold mining, Somali gold trade, Bosaso port, gold exports UAE, Dubai gold market, African mining documentary, resource economy Africa, Sanaag region Somalia, investigative documentary Africa, corruption documentary, African natural resources, gold smuggling documentary, Somali economy, Horn of Africa geopolitics, Puntland politics, Somali mining industry, Al Shabaab taxation, commodity trade documentary, international gold trade, resource governance, Africa economic documentary, Arkhivum documentaries
