So, David Sinclair, in a newsletter on the 6th of September, has finally elaborated on his ‘Sublingual Nope’ Tweet, that sent the NMN community into a flat spin! Those two words in his tweet caused so many people, so much stress, it isn’t funny! So, what did he really mean? Well, he has finally explained all in his latest newsletter. For those that don’t know what sublingual NMN means, it is a way by which medication is diffused into the bloodstream through the soft tissue under the tongue. Some people ‘think’ it’s a good way to get NMN into your bloodstream. In his newsletter David Sinclair writes ‘It’s a good way to get a lot of things into your bloodstream, so they might be right’. Or they might be wrong. Because when it comes to NAD precursors, there’s far more we don’t know than what we do’. He continues ‘the best evidence will come when placebo-controlled human trials (lots of them) have been completed’. ‘Until then, anyone who is taking NMN in any way’, is guessing, we all are.’ More interestingly he also writes ‘Anyone who is selling you NMN as a product, and telling you how to take it, is also guessing’. Take Alive by Nature. In my humble opinion, they saw a niche market (sublingual administration) and have exploited it; obviously for profit - they’re not in business to make a loss. There are many companies selling NMN, this is a clever way to distance themselves from the herd…but as David Sinclair says…They, like all of us, are guessing. WE ARE ALL GUESSING. The other thing I have also wondered about the ‘you must take it sublingually’ mantra is that the only trails that have produced scientific results have been on mice, Can anyone tell me how David Sinclair got his mice to take NMN sublingually? You can’t because they took it orally in their drinking water. For those that say the humans liver processes NMN differently and therefore the bio-availability is reduced, are also guessing – it may be an educated guess, but it is still a guess, we may know when the human trials are complete. As David Sinclair writes in the newsletter, he will give you the science and what he does, but he will not give medical advice and he will not endorse products. So the ‘Sublingual Nope’ quote was not advice, but an answer to a question he was asked Do you take your NMN sublingually? He answered ‘Sublingual, Nope.’ Those that have watched his interview with Joe Rogan will know he takes 1 gram of NMN (food grade for those that are wondering) in the morning mixed with homemade yoghurt. He stresses in his newsletter that he is not saying “Should YOU take sublingual NMN? Nope.” “Is sublingual NMN any good? Nope.” Just “Do I take sublingual? Nope.” David Sinclair Closes by Saying - I’m going to do my very best to help you understand the science, and I’m going to be as transparent as possible about my own life, but I’m NOT going to tell you how to live yours.
