Starting from the 2026 budget, the Federal Government will no longer carry electricity subsidies alone. In a major policy shift ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the cost of power subsidies will now be shared among the Federal, State, and Local Governments under existing electricity laws. According to the Budget Office of the Federation, about ₦3.6 trillion will be deducted from the Federation Account between 2026 and 2028 to fund electricity subsidies, effectively ending the era where the Federal Government treated power subsidies as an open-ended liability. Under the new framework, any level of government that wants to protect residents from high electricity tariffs must clearly identify, justify, and fund those subsidies. The reform will be managed through the Power Consumer Assistance Fund (PCAF), designed to improve transparency, prevent debt accumulation in the power sector, and encourage cost-reflective tariffs. This policy is expected to significantly reshape Nigeria’s electricity sector, forcing states to improve revenue generation, prioritise power investments, and take responsibility for affordability decisions. Supporters say it will stabilise the power market, while critics warn it could increase political pressure on state governments and raise electricity costs for consumers. Watch as we break down what this reform means for Nigerians, state governments, electricity tariffs, and the future of power supply in Nigeria. #Nigeria #ElectricitySubsidy #2026Budget #PowerSectorReform #Tinubu #FederalGovernment #StateGovernments #LocalGovernments #ElectricityAct #PowerReform #EnergyPolicy #NigeriaPower #ElectricityTariffs #CostReflectiveTariffs #PCAF #BudgetOffice #FederationAccount #FiscalReform #SubsidyReform #NigeriaEconomy #PowerCrisis #ElectricityNews #EnergyTransition #PublicFinance #RevenueSharing #Governance #PolicyShift #EnergySubsidy #NigeriaPolitics #EconomicReform #Infrastructure #PowerSupply #EnergyMarket #ElectricityDistribution #PowerGeneration #EnergyAccountability #FiscalResponsibility #NigeriaDevelopment #EnergySecurity #ElectricityNigeria #EnergyEconomics #PowerPolicy #GovernmentSpending #PublicPolicy #NationalBudget #EnergyGovernance #PowerInvestment #ElectricityCosts #TariffReform #EconomicPolicy #NigeriaUpdates #BreakingNews #EnergyFunding #BudgetReforms #PowerConsumers #VulnerableConsumers #EnergyAccess #NigeriaNews #AfricanEconomy #EnergyInfrastructure #PowerSectorNigeria #EconomicTransformation #SubsidyBurden #FiscalFederalism #StateEconomy #LocalGovernment #EnergyDebate #ElectricityBills #PowerMarket #EnergyLaw #NigeriaEnergy #PowerIndustry #BudgetAnalysis #EnergyFuture #NigeriaReforms #EconomicStability #EnergyCrisis #PowerFunding #ElectricityAffordability #EnergyTransparency #GovernanceReform #EnergyLeadership #NigeriaPolicy #ElectricitySector #PowerDistribution #EnergyNews #Nigeria2026 #BudgetNews #EconomicUpdate #EnergyAccountability #PowerEconomy #ElectricityPolitics #EnergyCosts #NigeriaFinance #PowerTariffs #EnergySubsidies #NigeriaGovernance #PublicSpending #EnergyShift #PowerReforms #NigeriaBudget #ElectricityFunding
