Nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Redwood Fire Station serves the community of Redwood Estates and surrounding wildland areas along the Highway 17 corridor. With steep terrain, dense redwood forests, and remote neighborhoods throughout Summit Road and Lexington Hills, firefighters here are trained and equipped for the unique challenges of mountain-area response. Join Captain Hardy in this week’s video for a look at Redwood’s apparatus, a walkthrough of Chimeketa Park, and how engines navigate hard-to-access areas. You’ll also see firefighters sharpening essential skills during chainsaw training, used to clear downed trees during storms or wildfires. Opened in 2023, Redwood Fire Station is a state-of-the-art facility built with wildfire defense in mind. Surrounded by towering redwoods, it is a vital resource for mountain residents and supports the crew’s wildland urban interface mission with modern tools and equipment. This video is part of our 19-week Fire Station Spotlight Series, featuring each of our fire stations and the firefighters serving our communities. Tune in every Wednesday for the next station tour! #SCCFD #FireStationSpotlight #RedwoodStation84 #RedwoodEstates #SantaCruzMountains #WildlandFirefighting #WildlandUrbanInterface #Highway17 #MountainFirefighting #CommunitySafety #FireService #Firefighters
