This ‘52 Gretsch Synchromatic used to be an acoustic but before it got to me it’d had a DeArmond soundhole pickup plopped in a ragged hole cut through the top and bracing. Oof! It was done a long time ago, though. I set this old box on the straight and narrow, though… regluing all the loose bracing, adding soundpost supports under it, adding a dowel that runs from the neckblock to endblock for extra compression support, level/dressing the frets, and sorting out a new pickup solution. Said new solution is a GFS Alnico 5 vintage-style humbucker hidden under some tortoise material (like on some ‘30s and ‘40s electrics) at the neck… plus a new wiring harness with fancy Sozo cap and 500k pots. Clearly, it sounds awesome…
