I approached Playboy each time I walked past his yard to gradually build our interaction and proximity. At first I would leave if he would simply look in my direction then later I would exit if he would reach out and sniff my hand. By mid afternoon, if he was feeling brave, I could occasionally stroke a few inches above his nostril. During his round pen session I introduced the pole to initiate some body contact. Ideally I want to remain within his threshold, working to the edge of his comfort zone without going so far that I provoke his flight response and sympathetic nervous system.
