Scientists discover a new type of lion roar

New research reveals that a lion’s full-throated roar is unique to each individual and identification could soon help scientists to count lions and estimate population density. The team developed a data-driven method to automatically classify lion vocalisations, discovering two roar types (full-throated and a newly identified intermediary roar).
