I was gifted this incredible high-tech soilless growing system, the SproutsIO. In this video, see me unbox and set it up, plus incredible growth of my basil in just two days! I have always been skeptical of these types of systems, because we have been growing things in the earth for thousands of years, but I was curious about this one after reading about all the research and development that went into it, and the ability it gives people with no natural light to grow their own personal produce. In these times of Covid, I think it’s even more valuable, for peoples’ physical and mental health. There are a few systems that seem similar to this on the market for much less moolah, but this one ups the ante with its attention to all details, including its ability to factor in the existing environmental conditions like light and temperature. You actually have the ability to adjust those settings, as well as nutrient release to grow vegetables that are exactly your taste. For professional chefs and enthusiastic home cooks, this system may be exactly the edge that takes your creations to the next level. Also, little things like how the lamp is on a bendy neck make small adjustments incredibly easy. And you will see that the design is more aesthetically pleasing than any other system on the market, which is a big plus. I did have a bit of trouble with the setup, specifically connecting the system to WiFi, and transitioning from the device setup to the “planting” phase, where I placed the seed tray, or sIO, into the system. I think that’s why the app didn’t have great reviews on the App Store, but eventually I did find my way. After only two days using this system, I was able to get beautiful little basil sprouts, and the only work I did was the setup. This is really exciting, and has got my mind going all sorts of places!
