Click on CC for subtitles but I'm adding this video here since its now 20 years since the last eruption in MT Hekla and the clip is from RUV news in Iceland. It's remarkable for the sake that the news reporter told Icelanders that Hekla would erupt after 15 minutes, and she did, based on forecast from Mr. Páll Einarsson Professor of Geophysics, University of Iceland. He happened to be swapping paper rolls in the earthquake meters as he noticed that Hekla was about to go off and sent an alert to the Department of Civil Protection who contacted the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service that broadcasted the warning we se in the beginning of the video. It's also an interesting fact that Hekla used to go off every 50-100 years but I the last century it's been shorter interval between eruptions. The last ones where in 1913, 1947, 1970, 1980-1981, 1991 and 2000. It's been some earthquake activity in her for the last years and she's expected to erupt anytime now, but she could just as well be quiet for the next decades. it's however with mentioning that GPS measurements show her even more ready than in the the 2000 eruption so she's on my top 5 list over next possible eruptions in Iceland but you can check out my video about that here. • What 5 Icelandic Volcanoes are Ready ... Note that I'm not a scientist and this part of my channel is more thought as past and present database. Please consider to subscribe as it's my intension to add more old footage here and I also want to mention that I'm always adding something useful stuff in my camera bag to be ready to show you my own recordings of the next eruptions in Iceland. And I have the feeling that something will happen in 2020.
