Layne Beachley is Australian surf royalty with 7 world titles, 6 of them she won consecutively. With 19 years on tour, Layne saw it all: the sexism, the struggle, and the inequality in support, media coverage and sponsorship that the women had to endure. The new movie GIRLS CAN'T SURF highlights those struggles, focusing on a group of brave women, who in the years before Layne's arrival as an athlete on the ASP World Tour, fought tooth and nail to even be allowed to surf. Alexa from Still Stoked was invited to host the Q&A sessions before the movie's National release, standing alongside Jodie Cooper, Pam Burridge, Director Chris Neilius, Producer Mickela Purskey and of course, Layne Beachley. Two neighbours that know each other from their local surf break, Alexa sat down with Layne before the Cronulla Girls Can't Surf premiere to chat about some of the stories that Layne had from that time. GIRLS CAN'T SURF is an incredible documentary. Please go and see it and take your friends, male and female, surfers and non-surfers as this story is sadly, as relevant today as it was all those years ago.
