Conventional Current - GCSE Physics

This video introduces the topic of conventional current. By convention we say that current goes from the positive to the negative terminals of a cell - in fact the negative electrons move in the other direction. When current was first discovered, it was assumed that positive charges flowed from the positive to the negative terminals. In reality the opposite happens, negative charges flow from negative to positive. However convention remains and we say that conventional current flows from positive to negative. The long side of a cell symbol is the positive terminal and the short side is negative. This is important to remember because it allows us to know which way conventional current is flowing.
