Seventieth track day! 40 events with the E46! Yeeet! Decided to go big and make my second pilgrimage down to SoCal for a weekend of tracking. This time not in the F80. Buttonwillow has been on my mind ever since I first ran it last year. Wanted a do over - since I had tire issues early on my fist go. Ran 2 groups spaced apart by 20 minutes to give the tires a lil break. (Red/Pink). Ran 7 total sessions across the day. Only missed sessions because of stud issue. (More on that) At the end of my first session, I had bested my previous F80 time by exactly .01 seconds! Kinda unbelievable it was that close. (2.03.03). Ended up with a 2.02.21 personal best in session 2. I'll take that as my first attempt! 2min flat optimal. Really no excuses for not progressing throughout the day tho. Car, weather, tires all pretty perfect. Just couldn't clean up my lap or get clean space across the day. Had a few instances of locked up brake pedal or some ABS issues on "Off-ramp/T2". (Regardless of over-cooking a few of them) Car was not being stopped correctly and hard pedal. Didnt like the curb jump followed by bad pavement. Havent really experienced that problem before. Maybe one time at Laguna in the rain on T6. (Which I tend to think was oil on track) Outside that. Was a very scary feeling and not much I could do but bite down and press hard and wait for the brakes to respond. Was only able to isolate 3 spots in highlights but I think it was 4 total for the day. Kinda sat rent free in my head all weekend. Near the middle of the day, I rotated my tires... Only to snap a rear stud during it.. Drill it out and realize I forgot my extractor tool. Fuuuck. Had to run around paddock and eventually found the store "Seven" near the entrance and they were amazing. Hooked me up with a small extractor set. Got the stud out. Already had an entire new set of studs on hand with me. Decided to swap all the studs out. When i did the other rear hub. I also snapped another stud. So had to also drill and extract that one. Oh yea and do a tire swap. All in the middle of the mid-day heat. Which led to me getting a mild heat-stroke sorta deal. Basically, felt like shit from that point on till about 8pm at night. Felt terrible but I am a monster and just kept trucking. I did have it all fixed and ready for the last mixed open-passing group. (FWIW: Studs were ~10 months old. Dozen or so events. Motorsport hardware from FCP. Not the first time.) Was all good tho. Finished out the day at hotel and watched UFC 320 to decompress. Car survived. I survived. Next up tomorrow - The Circuit. 10/04/25 track day hosted by Ongrid. Red + Pink Group (Fast Advanced).
