An Excerpt from African Fisherman Cloud Magazine #15 at http://www.africanfishermanonline.com Tokwe-Mukosi Dam, which was started in June 1998, and though about mid-way through construction suffered set backs in the floods of 2014, offers many benefits when complete including commercial fisheries, boating, adjacent parks and hydro power generation, and not least of all - sport fishing. In spite of widespread panic and rumour predicting the imminent collapse of the wall, this was never really a possibility. However, the dam level which was at about 20% full at the time the wall breached, has subsequently dropped, possibly to effect repairs to flood damage. When completed, the dam will be Zimbabwe’s biggest inland dam stretching back nearly 40km - as can be seen - creating myriad islands and fishable structure and could become a major resort after Kariba, with a national park planned to add further value. Stocking of bass (F1 fingerlings), bream and other species has been ongoing at Tokwe for the last 3-4 years. It is uncertain if these fish survived the draw-down, but if they did we can expect to see a phenomenal explosion of fish fauna as it fills, making it one of Africa’s angling jewels.
