I chose to do this after rediscovering these some eighty audio files in a shared google folder, from the 2015 era. This is largely early Modest Mouse, and very heavily influenced by Ugly Casanova, of course. I have been around Modest Mouse for about ten years or so, and am somewhat familiar with their history. I delved in way too deep early on, when I was about 19 or 20, and ended up with Isaac’s number, regular conversation with Jeremiah, and their family. That was some time ago. I guess you could say I was obsessed. I ran two social media accounts to support the band, on Twitter & Instagram. I met a number of good people through those years, endeavors, and time committed. Modest Mouse was my first tattoo. Their eloquence and style, like most, was near comparable to the religious states some may seem to entertain. I eventually dropped all this, and after seeing them live a few times, while Jeremiah was still living, gave up on whatever I was trying to do. Yet, on New Years Eve, a few years past. while I was filming at my local music venue, I received the tragic news that Jeremiah had expired, no longer with us. I had caught on that something was going on with him, and knew his days were limited. Rarely do I ever text Isaac. This was one of the extremely rare occasions that I did. Since then, I haven’t much listened to their music, or have been in contact with them. However, I came across these audio files in my google drive the other day, and chose to throw them together in order that you all may hear them. I won them through a Facebook group I was part of at the time. c.2015 I understand that some of these are already out in the world, such as Beta Carotene, Humpkin Pumpkin, and others. I know ugly Casanova isn’t functioning, although that combination they did with some folks for “180 Degrees South,” is incredible. The titles are more or less in line with their audio. I used the spelling and grammar as the audio tracks were titled. The images over the songs are from the files they came from. The one in B/W used mostly is just a cover. I think this is a rare gem to the music world, and something their children can see as a formative time for their now parents. I don’t think these are all yet public, so I hope you hear some new fascinating songs, or variations of a song you already know. I think hearing an early form of Float On, variations of Cowboy Dan, Tiny Cities, and early live sessions from Long Drive makes this all that more special. Blame Yourself Knife was one of the first audio files so I had it in the beginning, but I had to readjust some things so I tacked it on at the end. Don’t be confused by the title in the beginning. Anyway, I’ve been listening to these gems for the past seven years and after rediscovering them, it’s time you all can too. Best, Fred Games
