Mieczysław Fogg & Ork. A.Golda i J.Petersburskiego (Gold & Petersburski Orchestra) – Hanko (Nie żartuj ze mną) [Hannah/ Don’t Play With Me] Tango z teatru Ananas z rewii „Raj bez mężczyzn” (from theatre Ananas revue „The Paradise With No Men), Muz. Z.Białostocki, Tekst: Jastrzębiec, Odeon 1931 (Polish) NOTE: Theatre Ananas was one of dozens of the ephemeral cabaret stages in Warsaw of the inter-war times. The Polish capital city was then a true paradise for all kinds of theatre and cabaret artists. Almost each street in the central part of Warsaw could be proud of having at least one little stage, where the shows with music, songs and sketch performances ended late at night, after which all the audience or its large part left the theatre to move on to the neighboring night restaurant or a dance bar. In the revue “Raj bez mężczyzn” for the first time was presented Ina Benita - the later great star of prewar Polish film, called “one of the most beautiful women of Warsaw”. Also, the tango “Hanko” (Don’t Play With Me) first sung on stage of Ananas by the popular crooner Tadeusz Faliszewski, was a sensational hit and soon turned to be one of Polish evergreens. Inspired by all this, I chose for the slideshow several photographs of beautiful Polish women of the 1930s.
