On the occasion of Deepavali as is tradition in the family, BrindaMukthi proudly presents a rare video footage of a House Concert of the sisters Smt T Brinda & Smt T Muktha at the residence of Smt Meera Seshadri and "Aeolus" Sri UV Seshadri whose centenary we are celebrating this year. This rare video is a precious window into the world of Smt T Brinda and Smt T Muktha — two legendary torchbearers of the Veena Dhanammal tradition. Their music breathes an inner quietude, grace, and emotional honesty that words can scarcely describe. Every phrase they sing carries the fragrance of a living tradition — one nurtured through deep listening, intimate transmission, and an unbroken lineage of devotion to sound. Watching them together is like witnessing history sing — where the line between teacher, sister, and seeker gently fades into the purest form of music. This house concert holds a special place in history — a rare occasion where the sisters came together to sing after a hiatus of many years. In the quiet intimacy of a home setting, free from the formalities of the concert stage, the sisters rediscovered the joy of shared music — their voices intertwining once more with the effortless understanding born of a lifetime together. There is a quiet poignancy in this reunion: the tenderness of memory, the weight of lineage, and the spontaneous beauty that only such deeply kindred souls could summon. Every phrase in this recording feels like a homecoming — a return not just to each other, but to the very heart of the Veena Dhanammal tradition. That this archive emerges in the 250th birth anniversary year of Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar makes it all the more meaningful. Few artists have carried his music with such inwardness and authenticity as the Brinda–Muktha duo. Their renditions of Meenakshi Me Mudam Dehi and Mamava Meenakshi stand as living testaments to the timeless beauty of Dikshitar’s compositions — meditative, ornate, and deeply spiritual. In every phrase, one senses both reverence and renewal — a fitting homage to a composer whose works defined the very soul of classical restraint and bhakti. Through BrindaMukthi, I wish to share these timeless echoes — not just as archival treasures, but as living reminders of an art that shaped our musical consciousness. Meenakshi Kalyanam House Concert I 29th March 1991 Smt T Brinda & Smt T Muktha - Vocal Duet Sri RK Shriramkumar - Violin Sri Mannargudi Easwaran - Mridangam Sri Umayalpuram Sri Narayanaswamy - Ghatam Sourced from the family archives of Smt Meera Seshadri , disciple of Smt T Muktha generously given to us by her nephew Sri Diwakar who we lost earlier this year. We curate this archive in his remembrance as well and convey our heartfelt condolences to the family. 00:00 - Opening Credits 00:07 - Gamakakriya Raga 00:33 - Meenakshi Memudam Dehi - Raga Gamakakriya - Adi - Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar Rendered with meditative stillness and precision, this kriti associated with Deepavali blooms under their nuanced gamaka handling and serene gait. Every phrase evokes the quiet majesty of the goddess Meenakshi, with the Dikshitar idiom presented in its purest, most contemplative form. 07:16 - Varali Raga 10:15 - Mamava Meenakshi - Raga Varali - Misra Chapu - Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar A composition of rare beauty in an equally rare raga, this piece bears the unmistakable stamp of the Brinda–Muktha school — where restraint heightens emotion and each sangati unfolds with purposeful grace. Their Varali is not about ornamentation, but essence — the raga breathes and lives between the notes. 15:07 - Another Request! 15:56 - Padam - Poosadharamu - Raga Thodi - Tisra Triputa - Sri Govindaswami Ayya* This soul-stirring padam brings to light the Dhanammal bani’s crown jewel — the world of Pada-s. With their deeply internalised sense of laya, sahitya, and emotional subtlety, Brinda and Muktha transform this composition into a moving portrait of yearning and tenderness, each syllable caressed with musical sensitivity. 25:28 - Closing Credits We regret that this piece gets cut halfway through the charana due to poor recording and apologise for the inconvenience.
