The ultimate P-51 Mustang in MSFS - Echo 19's Audio Pack + Randall Snow's Improvement Mod

Today we’re taking a look at, what is in my opinion, the ultimate P-51 Mustang in MSFS, the Asobo P-51D in combination with Randall Snow’s fantastic Improvement Mod, Echo 19’s brand new Mustang: Precision Audio Pack and one of Bomber12th impeccable repaints, in this case Little Rebel. I hope you’ll agree this is a major upgrade compared to the stock Asobo P-51! Let’s start by talking about Asobo’s P-51, it’s pretty much perfect when it comes to the visual model and getting the proportions right compared to the real deal. However, the system’s depth is really lacking. For instance, you’re not able to open the canopy and systems like the primer and fuel pump are just for show and you can start up the engine without using either of them. The tailwheel steering mechanism wasn’t modeled correctly either, which made taxiing really challenging, but not for the right reasons. The flight model wasn’t the best either, for instance the takeoff and landing behavior was often times unpredictable and it would nosedive into the ground the moment you close the throttle on final approach. Another problem was the excessive adverse yawing movement which made rolls difficult and hesitation rolls almost impossible. I remember mentioning in my first Asobo P-51 video that I would love to see an enhancement package for the P-51 like the Duckworks DC-3 or Denarqs Twin Beech. So, I was very excited when Randall Snow released his Improvement Mod. It fixes pretty much everything mentioned above and adds cool new features. The Mod is a work in progress and there are still a lot of things Randall wants to improve and add, like for instance optional droptanks or bombs. But as it is now it’s already an awesome mod. As you can see you’re now able to open the canopy and to hide the pilot, the eagle eyed viewers among you may have also noticed that the P-51 in my video features cuffed bladed propellers, you can now switch between the standard paddle bladed prop more commonly seen today and the cuffed propeller which was much more common in WWII. The mod, among many other things, massively improves the modeling of the tailwheel steering mechanism and improves the flight model. It now feels much more realistic during takeoff and landing. In the air the adverse yaw is still a bit to prominent in my opinion, but overall it’s a lot of fun and as you can hopefully see in the video it’s possible to fly realistic aerobatic displays with it. Probably the highlight of the video is Echo 19’s new Precision Audio Pack. I’m sure a lot of you will be familiar with Echo 19’s work by now, which includes among many others the sound sets for Shrike’s F-86, Aeroplane Heavens Hurricane or P-47 (updated). Without a doubt Echo 19 is one of the best, if not the best sound studio for MSFS out there and in my opinion the P-51 sound set is probably their best work so far. Since it was released yesterday evening, I can’t stop flying the P-51. It’s probably the best sound set I’ve heard so far, in any sim! The Audio Pack is compatible with all of Asobo’s P-51s (MSFS2020 & 2024) and with Aeroplane Heavens P-51. Last but not least this video features one of Bomber12th fantastic repaints, in this case Little Rebel. For those of you who are not familiar with Bomber12th, he is one of the leading warbird experts out there, especially when it comes to the P-51. He is the creator behind the brilliant Warbirdsim P-51s in FS2004 and FSX and has created plenty of fantastic repaints in MSFS. His repaints most of the time cover airworthy warbirds and are perfect down to the last stencil. His repaints also cover the cockpit. I can’t praise his work highly enough! For this video I take the Mustang up for an aerobatic display over EDBK Kyritz, a small airfield close to Berlin. The airfield addon is by Aerosoft. I picked it up in the current sale on ORBX and so far really enjoy it, it’s very nicely detailed and with its two 1000m runways perfect for warbird activities. Thanks for watching the video!
