Genesis 40 — The Prison Was Preparing a Governor

Joseph was in an Egyptian state prison. Yet even there, God had not paused his life. When Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker dreamed on the same night and were troubled in heart, Joseph noticed their distress even as a prisoner himself. “Do not interpretations belong to God?” Before he was an interpreter, Joseph was a man who meditated on the covenant and connected his life to it. That is why he became both interpreter and comforter. The cupbearer was restored. The baker was executed. Joseph’s interpretations were fulfilled exactly. Yet Joseph was forgotten. God’s word had come true, but Joseph’s deliverance had not yet come. Genesis 40 reveals that even when God’s purpose is unfolding, our moment may still be delayed. But if God gives dreams, interpretation belongs to Him.
