Went up to North Carolina and Virginia last week to shoot some interviews and broll for a documentary and I figured I’d take my handy dandy Minolta with me. I had a roll of Harman Phoenix that I purchased ages ago that had been collecting dust, so I took this as an opportunity to use it! After looking at the photos I can say that I more than likely won’t use this stock again. I’m not a fan of the heavy reds and contrasts in the photos. Although one of my favorite photos is the photo of the church - that church was actually very white in real life and this film stock made it extremely red in certain areas - and for me that takes away from the memory of it significantly. The colors kind of work with the imagery of the warehouses, but when will I be in a warehouse with a film camera again? (Sooner than you think, actually.) but yeah, all in all it was cool to shoot with, but it will land in my “one and done” category for film stocks. As far as the video is concerned - I wanted to try something a little different here. A majority of my videos are led by music or voiceover, so I decided for this one I’d try not to use either. I wanted it to feel like a straight from camera experience - no fancy editing or pacing. I shot it with a Sony Handicam. If you’re reading this, let me know how you liked it! Was it boring? Was it interesting? Was it meh? Let me know in the comments. I actually will be traveling again soon, so another video will coming when I do, but I may be able to squeeze another one in before then. Either a film stock I haven’t tried or a camera that I haven’t tried. Whichever comes first. Until then, God bless.
