POV - Photographing Lion Dance Competition

Sharing my photography process to capture a unique sport like no other - Lion Dance. Special thanks for the best hospitality from HongDe Dragon and Lion Dance Association! Always fun hanging out and chillin with them! Some rambling and yapping here and there, but hope you find some of the tips I mentioned useful! My first time doing stuff like these, so feedback is always welcome! Will keep working on and making even better content :) A brief summary of tips/ tricks mentioned (in no order of appearance): Follow the action if possible, dont just stay in one spot Do not barge in to shoot unless you know them/ get permission Get as close to the action, do not cross over barricades unless allowed No flash photography is allowed for 99% of sports, keep the flash off Use a smaller autofocus box area to ensure your subjects are in focus Use high shutter speed to freeze the motion (normally im around 1/1000s) Try to get unique dynamic angles, eg low/ high angles Use auto ISO with exposure compensation to deal with changing light Expose for the subject, not the background as the subject is more important Spraying and praying aka holding down the shutter isnt the best method Have big goals but start small and do step by step, dont jump the gun Stay safe, have fun and get some memorable shots that you are happy with Equipment used: Nikon Z8 Nikkor Z 24-120mm F4 S Viltrox 16mm F1.8 AF Godox V1 for Nikon ^ You honestly dont need these kind of gear. I was on 12fps max. A Nikon Z50ii with a 12-28 DX and 50-250 DX can get you almost the same results. Thanks for watching once again! View more of my work, link in bio.
