Our world-renowned upper limb surgeons who operated on England’s fast bowler, Mark Wood have praised his return to form following surgery on his elbow. Wood’s re-introduction during England V Pakistan’s T20 saw Woods bowl the fastest ball in the series at 157 kmph. Professor Roger van Riet, Professor Ali Noorani and Mr Onur Berber carried out an elbow arthroscopy on Mark Wood. Professor Roger van Riet said; “The aim was always to get Mark ready for the World Cup. The performance that we have witnessed over the weekend will be the boost of confidence he needs to lead England to World Cup glory.” Who is Professor Roger van Riet? Professor Roger van Riet is a world-renowned elbow surgeon. He is a pioneer in arthroscopic surgery of the elbow and has treated elbow injuries in many international athletes, including Olympic and world champions. He is well recognised for the development of his technique to repair and reconstruct the unstable elbow as well as tendon repairs around the elbow. He has travelled the world as a teacher of elbow surgery. He is a visiting professor at the University Hospital Antwerp and has published extensively. He is currently involved in the development of a new elbow prosthesis.
