Hydroprocedures are carried out with a 1-2 cc syringe (disposable or glass). The smaller syringe gives more control over the amount and rate of fluid injected and glass syringes usually have a smoother movement as compared to disposable ones. Hydrodissection refers to the almost complete dissection of the corticonuclear mass from the lens capsule with the mechanical help of a fluid wave produced by injecting BSS or Ringer’s lactate exactly in between the anterior capsule and the cortex. Hydrodelineation, also known as hydrodelamination and hydrodemarcation, refers to the separation of epinucleus from the nucleus by a fluid wave between the two, with the aim of debulking the nucleus. Before the hydroprocedures, AC is emptied of viscoelastic which had been introduced earlier for capsulorrhexis by slight pressure on the posterior lip of the incision. This safeguards against a sudden rise in pressure on injecting fluid. Be careful while doing hydroprocedures in mature cataracts, polar cataracts & cataracts due to intraocular foreign bodies. Five signs of successful hydroprocedure: 1. Shallowing of Anterior Chamber (AC) 2. Fluid wave traversing whole area of crystalline lens. 3. Hydrodelineation (Golden Ring Sign) 4. Nucleus Pop 5. Nucleus Rotation.
