I've seen a couple of posts with increasing frequency of people having these strange black boxes showing up in their prints. Almost always light boxes or other thin, translucent designs, I really wasn't sure why these were happening. A few surveys later I hear that some people are putting their designs together using the painting tool. Well, that's not wrong per-say, but it does seem an odd choice to me. The painting tool is a great utility for surface painting but it affords you no control beyond the surface layer, and it isn't always accurate. Our friend Simon was kind enough to send me the F3D from his design and told me which tutorial video he had been following so I was able to recreate his steps exactly and thus reproduce the problem exactly. It's the painting tool. Honestly, it would have been faster and more accurate to export a 3MF and color by object instead of an STL then go hunting-and-pecking both sides of the model to colorize it with the painting tool... and there aren't any discolorations either 😊 00:00 - The Problem 00:40 - Recreating the Problem 02:57 - A Better Way 03:45 - Deep dive 09:00 - Suggestions and Tips
