This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Etienne Mottet spoke about microfinance, technology and cultural differences in business. Etienne Mottet Founder and CEO, OPENCBS Microfinance Software – Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Originally from France, Etienne spent the first eight years of his still young professional career managing microfinance activities in Asia. As an intern for the French NGO ACTED, Etienne was in charge of proposing and implementing a microfinance software in India, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Fresh from university, Etienne joined OXUS, one of the leading microfinance institutions in Afghanistan. As chief of operations, he supervised 10 offices and 200 employees around the country and structured corporate policies and systems to find the best mix of industry best practices and cultural adaptations to Afghanistan. The incredible accomplishments of OXUS and the amazing heart of the Afghan people made those three years a life changing experience, both professionally and personally. In 2011, Etienne joined the OXUS head office team to create and implement policies and procedures for OXUS-affiliates in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. In early 2013, Etienne moved to Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan. There he created OPENCBS, affordable and adaptable microfinance software designed for thousands of microfinance institutions around the world still using outdated technology. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
