When this song was released there was an official promo release of "Doctor's Orders" where the label provided a run time of 5:35. This version has never been found, as it turns out the record label claims it was an error in transcription. You have no idea how much this stirred up the DJ community who immediately realized the error. The thought was that there must be a 5:35 version but that was cut down to 5 minutes for release. That meant new parts of the song were somewhere and what were they? The song was a big hit in the clubs, peaking at #2 for two weeks in early 1975. Carol was born April 7, 1948 in Brooklyn, NYC where her jazz singing mother and cousin the Sam Cooke were part of her musical heritage. At the age of 10 she appeared on "Name That Tune" and won, earning the attention of influential magazine Ebony who followed her career for the next three years. Douglas was signed to RCA Records in 1965 for a one off single "I Don't Mind (Being Your Fool)" but it sank into obscurity. She then turned her attentions to jingle singing and voice overs, even appearing on "The Patty Duke Show". She married and took a sabbatical from recording until 1974 when she signed with Midland International Records. CEO and producer Ed O'Loughlin was looking for an artist to do a cover of a UK hit by Sunny called "Doctor's Orders" for the North American audience. He signed her and connected her with producer Meco Menardo who took the helm for "Doctor's Orders" and created a disco monster like he did for Gloria Gaynor's "Never Can Say Goodbye".
