Who runs the country? Lobbying in Australia | The Drum

Fighting for their cause or pushing an agenda, just who are the people who influence governments? If you have a campaign to run, or a message to push Canberra is where you go. Hundreds of people regularly scurrying around the halls of Parliament House with orange passes around their necks. They’re the “back stage” passes that give people access, and they’re often given to lobbyists, allowing them to sneak five minutes of a minister’s time. But it’s not the only way groups gain access to politicians. The Drum reporter Stephanie Boltje looks into the people who influence government and what makes them so powerful.
