How to Survive the Freezing Cold in the Deep Snow of a Wild Forest – Shelter by a Huge Rock This winter adventure turned into a real survival test! I ventured deep into the wild and, after crossing steep valleys, reached an altitude of 2,400 meters above the forest. There, beneath a massive rock covered in thick snow, I built a shelter using a 3×3 meter double-sided tarp tent. One side was reinforced with stones, while the other two were completely sealed with snow. The snow had fallen a few days earlier, reaching over 1 meter deep in some areas, with an average depth of 70 cm. The weather was completely unpredictable—one moment, the sun peeked through the clouds, and the next, a dense fog engulfed everything. At night, the sky was completely clear, causing the temperature to drop below -16°C. It was so cold that my breath instantly turned into ice crystals. Filming in such extreme conditions made the challenge even harder. My only meal consisted of some venison, a few mushrooms, and potatoes, providing enough calories to sustain me. My plan was to have a single meal and leave the forest before sunrise. I had no sleeping bag! I spent the night on an insulated mat and natural merino hide. My only source of warmth was a steady fire, which made the freezing night more bearable. Before sunset, I sawed a large amount of firewood and stacked even more behind my shelter to keep a continuous, large fire burning throughout the night. Finding firewood in deep snow was a real challenge, but I managed to locate some fallen trees. Relying on my skills and experience, I endured this harsh night—without modern equipment, only using bushcraft and survival knowledge! Did I manage to survive this freezing night?
