Hello again. So today is part 1 of my lightfast test of all the brands of oil pastel I'm using. Part 2 video will come at the end of March in which we will compare how much, if any did the colors fade when exposed to light for a period of two months. I use up to 6 brands of oil pastel (Sennelier, Paul Rubens, Neopastel, Mungyo Gallery, Van Gogh and Cray pas). I've been asked the question many times of how durable are the colors for oil pastels. Do they fade? And so I thought it would be great to do an actual lightfast test of the brands I'm using. I'm curious as well. Does oil pastel fade over time when exposed to light? This is part 1 and in two months we will compare and I'll upload part 2. I also decided to include a fixative to see if adding a fixative will change the lightfast. So in this video, I have set up two columns. One column are all the colors without a fixative and the second column are the same colors but with a final fixative sprayed on top. I'm using Krylon matte final fixative for this test. Does using a final fixative protect color fading when added to oil pastels? We will find out.
