The restored wheelhouse for SS Freshspring was delivered from the restorers Butler and co, Truro to the ship at Bideford Quay with the support of Nick Sampson Haulage http://www.nicksampson.com The wheelhouse was made by Ashley Butler and Keith Rutter of Butler and Co who make traditional wooden boats https://www.butlerboatyards.co.uk The work cost £31,000 and has been completed in four months. funding has been provided by Heritage Lottery, Bideford Bridge Trust and Torridge District Council. John Puddy, the Trust Chair states " This is a major visual step forward with SS Freshspring now looking a very smart ship. We plan to open the ship fully to the public in June of this year and the restored wheelhouse will provide a very valuable education space on board. Our stalwart volunteer team have worked very hard to prepare for the fitting of the wheelhouse and have achieved miracles in improving her appearance."
