Angus Hines, a senior meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, says that Tropical Cyclone Mitchell has weakened from Category 2 and is now a Category 1. Offshore from the Gascoyne and western Pilbara coastline, the cyclone is continuing to bring heavy rainfall and wind gusts that could exceed 100 km/h, enough to damage property and bring down large branches or trees.
