Station KZOK Seattle, The Bob Rivers Show... they did a better job describing the NASA Spaceflight simulations than most, but as usual, I spend most of my media time clearing up stereotypes and misconceptions about the protocols and the science. In this case, Bob and his buddy Spike COULD NOT BELIEVE I genuinely didn't care about celibacy while in quarantine. Honestly, looking back, giving up sugar, tea, caffeine, and salt were WAY HARDER. The rigors of physical testing are significant. Screening is brutal. You will find out what you're made of. Most people assume these and other perceived "downsides" exist, and completely dismiss upsides: if you are accepted, you are there for SCIENCE. Nothing can top that. Also, just being accepted is an honor. It's tough, but incredibly gratifying. The free time when testing is over is also fantastic.
