Hundreds of Freshly planted San Pedro cactus ! An update on trichocereus cactus I transplanted recently . These cacti were planted a couple weeks ago . I made new dirt terraces by piling up compost at the edge of my hillsides and covering the fresh plant material and compost with soil . This created level pathways along the hill . I’m slowly planting rows of cactuses along the newly build paths and garden beds . I am showing the cactos progress along the way ! After I plant fresh cactus cuttings and transplant potted cacti they are susceptible to sun burn . To shelter the tips and help the new plants acclimate I put large leaves over the tops of each cacto !! This is an easy method to help plants grow ! Putting leaves over your cactus tips is simple ! It doesn’t require structure or shade cloth or any investment! The beauty is that you never need to actually remove the leaves , the leaf will simple dry and desiccate and crumble away on its own. New growth with push its way right through that old leaf !! Next up , I will plant succulents and geraniums at the base of each cactus in these planted rows . The lush and drought tolerant ground-cover plants will help act as a mulch and keep the soil from heating up and drying out . Having companion plants around your San Pedro cactus helps give them shade and retains moisture in the soil . Eventually the columnar cactos will out grow the succulents and other plants and the ground cover plants can be either pruned back or removed ! Everything shown here is newly planted landscape , and I’m proud to show off my unfinished work in progress because one day soon this will all look beautiful and I’ll have these awesome before videos to look back upon !! Hope you enjoy watching me and my cactus grow together!!!! #cactos #cactus #plants #garden #cacti #gardening #ihavethisthingwithplants #trichocereus #sanpedrocactus #nature #droughttolerantplants #succulent #cactusflower
