QUESTION: What about the often overlooked issues of Intimacy and Sexuality in our older population? Legacy of Wisdom is a non-profit project dedicated to developing a vision of best practices for living and the fulfillment of our life's potential. We ask a specific set of questions related to five of humanities most pressing issues. By gathering the answers from some of our most experienced and profound teachers, we are able to create a vision that is useable by people in all generations. Reb Zalman suggests that our institutions rethink the taboos on touch, restating how much need we have for intimacy even as we age. He points out the nature of "giving" when we massage older people and how much it is deeply appreciated. NOTE: Regarding Reb Zalman's comments on pornography at the end. He is not advocating the "use of pornography" as most people know it. Rather, in the service of older people recognizing that sex and intimacy are loving aspects of reality - his advocacy is towards responsible aging groups like AARP to come up with media that discusses and promotes a return to touch-friendly intimacy in aging. There is simply too much loneliness and lack of touch in our elder society today.
