Let’s talk about Whisky!!! We are living during a very exciting time when it comes to Whisky! If you are interested i would say that now is the best time to start learning more about Whisky and getting in to it! Also know as the King of Spirits, whisky is know as being a fancy, high class and empowering spirit! But what is it exactly ? Different from gin I was not able to explain whisky in only 60 seconds. There are so many types and variants out there such as : Single Malt, Blended, single grain, Bourbon, Rye, Tennessee Whisky and from different origins! But to summarise : Whisky is a fermented grain based distilled spirit (grains being barley, rye, wheat, corn and so on) And then matured in oak cask - there are also whiskies aged in different type of wood, but let’s not get too right complicated now! From that Whisky has different regulations on every single country about what can be called whisky… and that when things start to get a bit confusing! These regulations are generally around: Minimum Maturation time Type and maximum capacity of casks (barrels) The maximum ABV that the spirit is distilled at (the spirit generally had to carry flavours from the raw material still). Sometimes certain countries add different regulations as well but we’ll be talking in more details about each one in the future!
