LIVE: Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) holds press briefing | ABS-CBN News

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) reveals it has identified 421 suspected "ghost" flood control projects across the Philippines following an initial validation of nearly 8,000 projects. In a press conference, ICI head General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. and the commission's legal team detailed their plan to investigate and prosecute those responsible for corruption in government infrastructure from 2016 to 2025. The ICI is initially focusing on the 421 suspected ghost projects, broken down as follows: 261 in Luzon, 109 in Visayas, and 51 in Mindanao. Azurin announced that the commission aims to file its first batch of at least 15 cases with the Office of the Ombudsman within the next three to four weeks. He outlined a systematic approach involving technical validation, case build-up with the help of the PNP, AFP, and NBI, and the eventual referral of cases for prosecution. The commission also confirmed that it has invited House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman to a hearing to shed light on the budget processes related to these projects.
