So a clarification for people who wonder what this video even is: this is just one instrument that plays in an orchestra during Howard Shore’s The Fellowship of the Rings suite. There are LOTS of other percussion instruments playing too, and other live percussive effects. But this treated piano gives the music that clank and clatter, as well as a big booming metallic ‘thud’ and it works pretty well live to simulate how they got this sound in the studio when recording Howard Shore’s soundtrack score. A tutorial on how to play this instrument! Do not use excessive force—gravity and the chain/mallet will produce enough power for a big sound!
