#HAL #SukhoiSuperjet100 #IndianAerospace #IndianAirForce #CivilAviation #SaM146 #PD8 In a historic move for India’s aerospace ambitions, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a landmark MoU with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to locally manufacture the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SJ-100) in India. Unlike the “Russified” version with the new PD-8 engine, India’s variant will use the original Franco-Russian PowerJet SaM146 engine, blending proven French technology with Russian design — a strategic masterstroke aimed at boosting reliability, lowering operational costs, and attracting Indian airlines. The aircraft, with a range of 2,200–2,600 nautical miles, will support India’s UDAN regional connectivity scheme, targeting over 200 aircraft for Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and an additional 350 units for Indian Ocean rim nations. The HAL-produced SJ-100 could undercut Embraer and ATR rivals by 20–30%, thanks to localized assembly and “Make in India” components from Tata, Mahindra, and L&T. HAL plans to roll out prototypes by 2028 and start deliveries from 2030, marking India’s first full-scale civil jet production since the 1980s. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the project as a major stride toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat, emphasizing its potential to position India as a global regional jet hub. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force is reportedly exploring military derivatives of the SJ-100 for ISR, maritime patrol, and AWACS roles — further expanding the jet’s strategic utility. With U.S. tariffs threatening to raise Boeing and Airbus costs by up to 25%, HAL’s SJ-100 emerges as a cost-effective, sanctions-resilient alternative, combining Russian airframes and French propulsion. If successful, this project could propel India into the global civil aviation market and lay the foundation for an indigenous regional jet by 2040. ✈️ Watch this video to know how HAL’s new jet could change India’s aviation future forever!
