“Let’s Talk About Mastitis” If your breast ever feels hot, sore, and swollen, and you suddenly start feeling like you’ve caught the flu… it might not just be exhaustion, mama — it could be mastitis. Mastitis is inflammation of the breast tissue, usually caused by: 💧 A clogged milk duct that hasn’t been drained well 🦠 Or a bacterial infection that enters through a cracked or sore nipple It often starts with tenderness or hardness in one area of the breast — then suddenly, that pain intensifies. You might notice: Red, warm patches on your breast A lump that feels firm or swollen Burning pain while breastfeeding or pumping Chills, fatigue, or even a fever And mama, I know how scary that can feel — especially when you’re already tired, trying to keep up with feedings, and caring for your baby. 🤱🏽 Here’s what you can do to find relief (and still protect your milk supply): 💛 1. Keep breastfeeding or pumping — don’t stop! It actually helps clear the blockage and prevents things from getting worse. 💛 2. Apply warmth before feeding to help milk flow, and massage gently toward the nipple while nursing or pumping. 💛3. Rest and hydrate — your body needs time to recover just like any other infection. 💛 4. Use supportive, but not tight, bras. Avoid compression. 💛5. Watch your symptoms. If you develop a fever lasting more than 24 hours or severe pain that doesn’t ease up — reach out to your provider. You may need antibiotics to fully clear the infection. Remember: you didn’t do anything wrong. Mastitis can happen to any breastfeeding mom — even those doing everything “right.” Early care makes all the difference. You got this, mama. 💪🏾💖 Save this video and share it with a friend who’s breastfeeding — she might thank you later! #MastitisAwareness #BreastfeedingJourney #BreastfeedingEducation #fypシ #EducationalFriday #BreastfeedingSupport #PostpartumCare #BlackBreastfeedingMoms #MotherhoodSupport #blkeducationalfridays
