Fresno Officer Strikes Gunman With Patrol Car During Pursuit

(Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Fresno, California — On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Fresno Police Officer #1 was on an unrelated call in the area of the River Park Shopping Center when he heard gunshots coming from the direction of a restaurant parking lot. Security camera video shows 18-year-old George Ruiz firing a gun at a passing vehicle. Officer #1 ran toward the sound of gunfire and saw Ruiz running across north Blackstone Avenue. Officer #1 saw Ruiz attempt to carjack a vehicle in a shopping center parking lot on the west-side of north Blackstone Avenue. The victim of the attempted carjacking was able to drive away. After failing to carjack a vehicle, Ruiz continued running from officer #1 toward the Sam's Club parking lot. Officer #1 broadcasted Ruiz's location over the radio during the foot pursuit. Following officer #1's radio transmission, officer #2 and #3 arrived at the location in a marked patrol vehicle and observed Ruiz running while reaching for his pants waistband. Ruiz was struck by officer #2's patrol vehicle and then taken into custody. As they get closer, officer #2 says "He's reaching," referring to Ruiz reaching for his gun. Officer #2 drove toward Ruiz, slowed his patrol car, and struck him. Ruiz dropped his gun. Officer #3 recovered the handgun after Ruiz was taken into custody. Ruiz was taken to the hospital for leg pain, treated, and released. He provided a statement admitting to the shooting. Ruiz was booked into jail for the Shooting, Firearm-Related Charges, and Resisting Arrest. Ruiz's loaded firearm was recovered. Ruiz shot at the victim's vehicle striking it once. The victim's in the vehicle were not injured.
