The Renown Rehabilitation Hospital partnered with High Fives Foundation on a Peer Mentoring Program that brings Foundation members, who have suffered spinal cord injuries, to the hospital to meet with patients who have similar injuries. High Fives Founder, Roy Tuscany, says," I deliver hope. I'm a hope dealer." "I think that is what we do differently through the Peer Mentoring Program that we have set up here. It is so important to find those moments of hope that give you that positivity to see farther out than the end of your bed," says Tuscany. "I can tell them until they are blue in the face that they are going to be okay and it is going to work out, but I really think that's where the peer mentors come in," says SCI Rehabilitation Program Specialist, Sarah Porter. "When Roy came to visit me in the hospital, he gave me inspiration. He gave me a can-do attitude that has stuck with me up to and including today," say former patient, Rod Avilla. Renown Rehab Hospital Administrator, Chris Nicholas, says the Peer Mentor Program is an important component in making the Hospital a top facility for treating patients with spinal cord injuries.
