In April 2023, my friend Stefan and I climbed with snowshoes to the "Prinz-Luitpold-Haus" (German Alps) to spend the night in a winter room. The huge amounts of snow and the physical effort turned this hike into a very unique adventure. But see for yourself... ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Tips for dealing with the risk of avalanches 1. no matter how much you know about avalanches, never be too confident and be careful. 2. consult the avalanche report and the alpine weather several times a day at lawinenwarndienst-bayern.de. 3. consult with the Alpine advisory service (e.g. Bad Hindelang mountain guide office: 08324-953650). 4. be on the move in the mornings and at midday, in order to avoid the snow melt in the afternoon. 5. if possible, always walk on the northern slope, as it gets less sunlight 6. keep in touch with the local people (e.g. hut warden in the valley) 7. carry an avalanche shovel and avalanche probe.
