Huge waves and Hurricane at Kråkenes lighthouse, Stadt-Norway

Experience Kråkenes Lighthouse, Stad – Norway in extreme weather, filmed during a heavy storm on 4 February 2011. The lighthouse station, built in 1906, is located on the north-western tip of the island of Vågsøya, even further west than Stad, and is known as one of the most exposed lighthouses in Norway. It also serves as a meteorological station, where wind speeds exceeding hurricane force are not uncommon. The lighthouse stands about 42 metres above sea level, yet during severe storms the waves can still reach this height. Watching the wild ocean and crashing waves from a safe distance is a dramatic and unforgettable experience – this video gives you a glimpse of that raw Atlantic power.
