Protestors carrying signs and chanting "Save Roe v. Wade" STORYLINE President George W . Bush said on Wednesday that "things were off to a good start" for the nomination of Judge John Roberts to the US Supreme Court. A day after President Bush nominated him to serve on the highest court, Judge Roberts made the rounds in Washington, beginning with an early morning breakfast at the White House. Roberts then joined Bush as he spoke briefly to the press in the White House Rose Garden. Bush expressed confidence in his nominee and pressured lawmakers to get Roberts in place by the start of the high court's next term. Roberts then headed to Capitol Hill for meetings with leaders in the Senate, which will decide whether he will replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Roberts met later in the day with Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid.
