The Demons Crest series takes place in a world of ancient legends, where the planet was divided into two realms. One was inhabited by humans, the other by demons. The games in the series usually take place in the human world, this time however the game takes place in the demon world and the player controls an anti-hero called Firebrand. It all starts when, inexplicably, 6 magical emblems (guarded by humans) are somehow teleported to the demon realm. Each is related to an element: water, earth, fire, air, time and paradise. In the game world there is a myth that the person who manages to collect and unite all the emblems will obtain the Infinity Emblem, which grants unlimited power to the emblem. All the demons soon begin a relentless search for the emblems and soon the demon world goes into civil war. While searching for the most coveted, the Emblem of Paradise, Firebrand in a careless moment was severely wounded by the dragon demon. Phalanx, a great enemy of Firebrand, took advantage of the main character's moment of weakness and stole almost all of the emblems he had collected so far. Firebrand remained with only a small part of the Fire Emblem, which during the battle was shattered. Firebrand then crashed into the same coliseum where he had previously faced a demon dragon (in the Gargoyle's Quest series). The game then begins with the player being forced to face the Dragon Demon again and flee the coliseum behind the emblems.
