Dialing in your trigger settings is one of the most important steps in getting your eDrums to feel and respond the way you play. In this video, I walk through how to set up all your drum and cymbal pads, explain why sensitivity isn’t always the first thing to tweak, and discuss how trigger parameters dramatically affect accuracy and dynamics. Although I’m using a Roland module, these principles apply to most brands—especially if you’re converting acoustic drums to eDrums and want them to feel as close to acoustic as possible. I also cover essential tips like backing up your module, using Roland’s Pad Default settings, what to adjust (and what not to touch yet), and how to troubleshoot issues like rim misfires, velocity curves, hi-hat calibration problems, and crosstalk. If you want your kit to play and feel more expressive, this walkthrough will help you dial everything in with confidence. Kit I'm using is a V71 midi'd to a TD50X. The V71 kit is a 'stock' kit with my edits. The TD50X kit is from Vexpression. As always, I hope these ideas inspire you in your eDrumming journey. I thank you for watching….hit me up with any questions or comments below. ________________________________________ Timestamps Intro — Why Trigger Setup Matters with your module and with VSTs 01:35 Trigger philosophy, regardless of brand 01:59 Acoustic to Edrum Conversion, and why I choose Roland 03:04 Owner’s Manual 03:22 Do a backup! 03:45 Trigger Banks 04:45 Global sensitivity 05:30 Pad/Trigger Type 06:50 Digital Pads 07:04 Threshold and sensitivity 08:04 The trigger settings other eDrummers use is NOT important 08:28 Playing examples 11:08 Velocity curves 14:22 Rim gain 16:15 Hi Hat 20:27 Positional graph settings (Roland V71/51/31) 21:51 Cross Stick detection 22:14 Scan Time 22:29 Mask time 23:24 Retrigger cancel 23:53 others/notes/tips 24:31 Crosstalk (XTalk) 25:27 final thoughts
